If you're switching to a vegetarian/vegan diet but can't let go of the regular tempura you liked, then this recipe is a great alternative to still eat and enjoy tempura. I've tried making this and it tastes just like the ones you can get at some Japanese restaurants. For a tempura batter you need: - 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
For frying you need: - oil for frying
- mixed veggies, any kind
Combine the flour, salt sugar and baking powder. Slowly add the vegetable oil and water until smooth and creamy. Chill for at least 15 min. Heat the oil in the pan and drop the battered vegetables. Allow to cook for about 3 min until crisp and lightly golden brown. Drain in paper towels.
For the sweet and sour sauce you need: - 1/3 c white vinegar
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 t soy sauce
- 2 t cornstarch mixed w/ 4 t of water
Just add the ingredients and bring to boil. This recipe is served as an appetizer. Enjoy! |
